When an incident has occurred and the police have been called, depending on the nature of what occurred, the Police are likely to call the ACT Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) to support you.
A person in an abusive relationship may not be involved with the police or DVCS at all. There are lots of people who don't call the police when something happens at home. It's usual to want to avoid getting your family 'in trouble' even if they are abusive toward you.
If you are feeling bad, scared or worried that someone you know might be experiencing domestic or family violence you can always call 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) to talk or visit online.
